Oxford Castle's prison held its last inmate in 1996 and reopened in 2006 as the Malmaison hotel, with rooms built straight into the old cell blocks. The bar sits inside the original Victorian wing — thick stone walls, iron landings still visible overhead, cocktails where there used to be lock-up.
