In 1996, the Royal Armouries — the national collection of arms and armour, previously crammed into the Tower of London — moved a huge part of it to a purpose-built museum on Leeds' old industrial waterfront. It's free to get in, and there's enough historic weaponry inside to make the Tower look under-stocked.
